This past weekend my boyfriend and I decided spur of the moment to take a trip to Mackinac Island, Michigan. We stopped at some other towns in Michigan on the way home. Mackinac Island is literally one of my favorite places in the world. It is a tiny island between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. It is one of the cutest places I have ever been. There are flowers everywhere, pretty colorful buildings, ice cream and fudge shops, boutiques, restaurants, beaches, and horse drawn carriages. There are no cars on the island so there are horses and bikes everywhere. There is tons to do. You can hike all over the island. There is also a bike path that goes all the way around the perimeter. Arch rock is a natural rock formation that is high up on a cliff. There is also a spot on the highest part of the island that you can hike up to. You can see most of the way around the island. We spent a lot of time at these two spots.
When I went to check out the Grand Hotel, there wasn’t anybody guarding it like there normally is. I was able to go right up to all of it and go down into the gardens. I know this sounds kind of pathetic but I have always wanted to go into the gardens. There is a fountain and tons of flowers. The other two times I have been there, there was an employee guarding the entrance. They normally only let people that are staying there go up close. The Grand Hotel is enormous, beautiful, and historical. Although I didn’t stay there, I still like to go check it out.
I wore this striped top that I got from Zara on 4th of July. I didn’t try it on in the store because it was really crowded. When I got home I decided that I hated the way that it fit. It kind of swallowed me up. I planned on returning it, but never got around to it. I ended up just doing some alterations to it and now I love it. I cropped the length, shorted the ruffle by almost 2 inches, and took the elastic out of the sleeves. I am really happy with how it turned out. I thought that the navy and white stripes would be fitting for this Lake side adventure.
