Vasquez Rocks

          This was my second time visiting Vasquez Rocks.  It’s such a cool little park, just outside L.A.  If the rock formations look familiar, that’s probably because you have seen them in a movie or commercial.  This is a popular filming location for a ton of things.  I won’t list everything but here is a bit more about that.  There have been hundreds of things filmed here.  

          It’s a really beautiful area surrounded by mountains and canyons, with jagged rocks sticking out all over.  There aren’t necessarily trails that you have to follow.  You can go pretty much anywhere.  you are allowed to climb on the rocks and explore freely.  I’m not really sure but I get the feeling that this area isn’t as protected as some parks because it’s always used for film sets.  These photos really don’t do it justice.  the rock formations are so much taller than they look! It’s definitely a place you don’t want to miss if you are visiting L.A., and like to hike.  

          If you do come, I recommend coming early, probably on the weekend.  I’m not really sure how often filming takes place or when.  I’m guessing it would be closed to visitors when that happens.  Both times I have come have been on a weekend and we haven’t had any issues. I’m not sure if there is a way to find that out in advance.  There is no entrance fee and there is a lot of parking but it does get pretty crowded if you aren’t there early.  Also, I wouldn’t go if the temp. is supposed to be above 70 degrees.   Dogs are also allowed.  I really don’t go hiking anywhere that doesn’t allow dogs anymore.
