I have been wanting to check out the Venice Beach Canals since moving to Southern California, and haven’t gotten around to it until now.  They are pretty famous and I always see photos of them and hear about them but had never been.  Venice Beach gets super crowded on weekends and makes visiting almost impossible.  We tried to go last Sunday but couldn’t find parking and had to leave.  My husband and I just happened to be off Monday evening and decide to go back.  It worked out so much better because there were hardly any people there.  It was really fun to just walk around and look at the unique houses and the waterways.  I can’t say it looked anything like what I would expect Venice, Italy (haven’t been) to look like though.  I’m not sure if it was named after that, but I think it was.  I did really enjoy it and I think it’s worth a visit if you can go on a weekday.  This is a residential area so if you visit, be mindful of that.  It reminded me a lot of Naples Island in Long Beach.  I actually prefer Naples Island though because the water is bluer and deeper.  Both are worth a visit though.
